According to La Moncloa, the official website of the President of the Government and the Council of Ministers in Spain, the country reaffirms its status as a top destination for international tourists in the summer of 2024.
Turespaña has released the Summer Trends Reports for the 25 main tourism markets to Spain, providing data and analysis to forecast tourism trends. These reports, prepared by a network of tourism councils worldwide, offer insights into the main economic indicators, political and social factors, recent developments in tourism demand, and forward-looking indicators for each market.
The Ministry of Industry, through Turespaña, has made these reports publicly available. They serve as a valuable tool for the tourism sector, helping to assess the volume of expected tourism activity and manage capacities more effectively.
Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, expressed optimism about the summer trends, stating, "After an extraordinary winter season, which is no longer a low season, we hope to complete a second half of the year that equals or even exceeds that of 2023."
Spain continues to be a favoured destination for summer 2024 across most markets analysed. The reports highlight that Spain remains ahead of its main competitors in key markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and the USA.
For the United Kingdom, Spain's primary tourist market, air capacity for the summer months is set to grow by over 8% compared to summer 2023.
In France, Spain is once again confirmed as the top holiday destination after domestic tourism. Indicators from Turespaña suggest a very positive summer season for French tourist arrivals.
Despite Germany's weak economic position, projections indicate that Germans will continue to travel this summer, with Spain being a preferred destination.
Italy, another key market for Spain, shows the highest rates of consideration and intention to travel to Spain. Air capacities between Italy and Spain have increased by 13.8% over last year, surpassing competitors in both connections and flight searches.
For the USA, a highly profitable long-haul market, the seat forecast and direct flight frequency to Spain will increase by more than 16% this summer. The market has seen an extraordinary boom in 2023 and early 2024.
Finally, China is showing a progressive recovery in its tourism sector. With rising air capacity, increased visa demand, and a solid market performance in the first two months of the year, Spain saw a 19% increase in travelers from China compared to 2019. Expectations for summer 2024 indicate a remarkable 49.8% increase in air capacities between Spain and China, marking the most significant growth among competitors.
